My Dress-Up Darling Animation Producer Says Sequel Became Possible Due to Strong Support From Fans

My Dress-Up Darling’s second season was officially announced by the anime’s team on September 17, along with a trailer, a congratulatory message and an illustration by the series’ author Shinichi Fukuda to commemorate the announcement. As fans of the show were delighted to know that the popular show is getting a sequel, Shota Umehara, an animation producer from CloverWorks who worked on My Dress-Up Darling, said that the studio was forced to work on a sequel because of the overwhelming response from fans.

“Congratulations on the announcement of My Dress-Up Darling Season 2. It’s not that the 2nd season was planned at all, but it’s the power of the support of everyone who watched the anime and bought various merchandise! It’s crazy because it was not in my schedule, but I’ll do my best as long as there are people who are happy to see it!”

What needs to be noted that there is barely enough material in the My Dress-Up Darling manga to be adapted into the anime, so it remains to be seen how the studio will handle this, and if they will add original content into the show. This could also be one of the reasons why CloverWorks waited months after the anime ended to announce a sequel.

My Dress-Up Darling is available on Crunchyroll in Japanese, English, and Hindi. The streaming platform describes the show as the following:

“Wakana Gojo is a high school boy who wants to become a kashirashi–a master craftsman who makes traditional Japanese Hina dolls. Though he’s gung-ho about the craft, he knows nothing about the latest trends, and has a hard time fitting in with his class. The popular kids–especially one girl, Marin Kitagawa–seem like they live in a completely different world. That all changes one day, when she shares an unexpected secret with him, and their completely different worlds collide.”
