‘MX Player third most downloaded OTT app globally’

Video streaming platform MX Player was the third most downloaded video streaming app in the world after streaming giants YouTube and Netflix, a report by Data.ai showed.

MX Player was ahead of Amazon Prime Video, which came in fourth, according to the State of Mobile 2023 report by Data.ai, formerly known as App Annie.

The report also highlighted that MX Player was the most downloaded app in India, surpassing Hotstar, ZEE5, Jio TV, and Jio Cinema.

It was the third most searched iOS app store keyword in 2022 after Netflix and Hotstar.

MX Player has a global reach in more than 17 markets including the UAE, United States, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Maldives.

The platform said that MX Original Series like Campus Diaries, Aashram Season 3, and Dharavi Bank performed well.Commenting on the report, Nikhil Gandhi, chief operating officer of MX Player, said, “2022 has been a defining year for MX Player for many reasons. According to the report, 255 billion new apps were downloaded last year, registering an 11% growth year on year. Users spend five hours daily on these apps, it said. Android phone users spent 4.1 trillion hours on apps.

The report said $167 billion was spent by users on app stores, while $336 billion was spent on mobile in 2022.
