In news of things we didn’t need, mustard flavoured Skittles are now an official thing.
Forget lemon or banana or mango flavoured sweeties, now you can bite down on a yellow Skittle and expect the tang of the condiment.
The launch comes from French’s – the brand that brings you mustard goodness for your hot dogs and the like.
Every year, in anticipation of the holiday, French’s comes up with different ways to put their signature yellow condiment into things – in the past, it’s been mustard doughnuts and mustard beer.
Now they’re cornering the sweets market.
News of the collaboration didn’t go down too well on social media, with people expressing their disdain at the idea.
One person wrote: ‘What is the world coming too…. mustard flavour Skittles?!?!?’
Another admitted they were going to hurl at the idea and one said it was ‘disgusting’.
A further commenter added: ‘I’m not tasting the rainbow, what is this?’
Other’s hoped it was a prank: ‘Please tell me this is fake,’ penned one shocked writer. But alas, this is not a delayed April Fool’s.
Some, however, felt more positive about the launch.
‘I need these. Mustard Skittles are coming and I need them,’ wrote one eager Twitter user.
Valda Coryat, North America vice president of marketing for McCormick & Company said: ‘From Mustard Ice Cream to last year’s viral mustard doughnuts, this year marks the fifth time French’s has gone all out with unique, flavourful innovations to celebrate National Mustard Day.
‘With the yellow holiday landing on August 5th, we knew we had to outdo ourselves.’
However, it seems that until we get our own National Mustard Day here in the UK, you won’t be able to get your hands on this condiment flavoured sweet on this side of the pond and honestly, we’re not sure that’s a bad thing.
