Musk: Elon Musk has a new plan to take on Microsoft-backed ChatGPT – Times of India
Elon Musk has revealed his plans for his own AI company, aiming to establish a formidable competitor to both OpenAI and Google to create a distinct third option in the AI industry, the TruthGPT.
“I am going to start something which I call TruthGPT or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” Musk said in an interview.
Musk acknowledged that he would be at a disadvantage compared to his rivals, saying that he is “starting late,” as OpenAI has already made strides with ChatGPT, and while Google also had a pretty late start, it plans to catch up with OpenAI soon.
He presents TruthGPT as a corrective measure in response to OpenAI, the nonprofit AI software organisation he co-founded but later became a for-profit venture. Musk suggested that OpenAI’s profit-driven motives could compromise the ethical considerations of its AI models, positioning TruthGPT as a more transparent alternative.
Recently, it was found that Musk has quietly registered a new company, and guess what its name is, X.AI Corp. Reports suggest that Musk has bought a number of GPUs and hired researchers from DeepMind for an undisclosed AI project related to Twitter.
Musk has previously expressed interest in creating a “TruthGPT,” as suggested by a tweet in February where he mentioned the need for such a model and highlighted concerns about the risks associated with large-scale AI models, including those developed by OpenAI.
In March, Musk, along with other AI researchers, signed an open letter urging companies to pause “giant AI experiments” that lack comprehensive understanding, predictability, and reliable control.
Musk recently tweeted about a meeting he had with former US President Barack Obama during his presidency, where he emphasised the importance of promoting AI regulation in Washington.
While it is possible Musk could be actively working on a ChatGPT-rival, we do not know in what form it will come – an AI chatbot or some new feature of Twitter.
