Mum’s Xmas tribute to jumping castle victim
The mum of a boy who died in the Tasmanian jumping castle tragedy has shared the special way she remembered him this Christmas.
The mother of Tasmanian jumping castle victim Zane Mellor has shared the beautiful way she included her late son on Christmas this year.
The 12-year-old was one of six children who died in the jumping castle tragedy at Hillcrest Primary School. On December 16, a gust of wind lifted the jumping castle about 10 metres into the air during end-of-year celebrations at the school.
Zane’s mother Georgie Gardam hung her beloved boy’s picture at the end of the Christmas table this year.
On the table lay his shirt and gaming controller.
Sharing the picture to Facebook, Ms Gardam wrote “Merry Christmas my love”.
Ms Gardam also shared some words on Thursday marking two weeks without her son, describing how hard the weeks without him have been but that she knows he is still with her.
“You are in the wind, in the music and in nature … I feel you my love, I hear you too, you are always with me my sweet man,” she wrote.
Zane was honoured in an emotional funeral on December 23, with his bright blue casket covered in drawings of PlayStations. His loved ones wore T-shirts in honour of his gaming name: “Jurassic Zane.”
Ms Gardam called Zane her “little man”.
“My baby, where do I start. I was so young when I had you, only 15. You grew up with me. You held my hand and kissed my face,” she said.
“I spoiled you rotten and I have no regrets. You knew every dinosaur and every time period it came from.”
Jalailah Jayne-Maree Jones, 12, who also died in the tragedy, will be remembered at a funeral in Devonport on Thursday afternoon.
Fellow students Jye Max Sheehan and Peter Anthony Dodt have been farewelled at services in the last week.
Peter was remembered as a “kind caring little soul” and “a firecracker of a kid”, and Jye was remembered for his mischievous smile and enthusiasm for life.
