As per reports in the media, upon receiving a call from the police and his wife’s colleague that his wife had met with an accident, Rajalaxmi’s husband rushed to Worli from Shivaji Park, where he had been jogging. Unfortunately, she was declared dead at nearby Podar Hospital.
Preeti Sompura, a journalist who witnessed the incident, said that local residents caught the driver, Sumer Merchant (23), and handed him over to the Worli police. Sumer and his friend were driving an electric Tata Nexon car towards Shivaji Park to drop off their female friend when the accident occurred.

Witnesses claim that the car was driving at a very high speed, and Sumer himself told the police that he lost control of the vehicle and hit the divider before hitting Rajalaxmi while she was jogging.
“We will strictly go by the eyewitnesses accounts as well the CCTV footages and his blood samples have been collected and further investigations are underway,” said a police officer.
