Mum defends ‘bonkers’ name she gave her baby boy
Chesney Leigh Wright has spent months defending her baby’s unusual name, saying it suits him “perfectly” despite strangers telling her it’s a “bonkers” choice.
The 26-year-old said her son’s name often causes confusion when people hear it, and the older generation in particular, struggle to understand her choice.
Chensey explained: “OAPs lose the plot when they ask my son’s name.
“When they find out what I called him they tell me I am bonkers and crazy and that I should give him a real name. I can’t believe I’m trolled by pensioners.”
Despite the reaction, Chesney said she always planned on giving her son an “‘unusual and memorable name” and personally loves it.

Speaking to The Sun, Chensey explained: “OAPs lose the plot when they ask my son’s name.
“When they find out what I called him they tell me I am bonkers and crazy and that I should give him a real name. I can’t believe I’m trolled by pensioners.”
Despite the reaction, Chesney said she always planned on giving her son an “‘unusual and memorable name” and personally loves it.
As for what the name of her son is, Chesney revealed: “It’s Boye for a boy, simple as that.
“When he was born and we started using his name I loved it. It suits him perfectly and I legally registered it without complaints, even if people do call it ‘Britain’s maddest name’.
“My boy Boye’s name breezed through approvals.”
As for how she decided on the name Boye, Chesney said her family were expecting her to have a baby girl, and they prepared for a girl by selecting several female names.
But when Chesney gave birth and was told her baby was a boy, they were stuck for a name, so called the newborn ‘Boy’ for several weeks.
Chesney and Boye’s father, Joe, then decided to add an e onto the nickname for the baby’s official name to be Boye.
The mother added: “You either love it or hate it.” And it turned out Chesney’s mother Heather, Boye’s grandmother, wasn’t a fan of the name either, and refused to call the baby Boye for four months.
However, the grandmother got used to the name, and “loves” the fact her grandson has such an interesting name.
Chesney told The Sun: “When my friends heard Boye’s name they just rolled their eyes.
“But I couldn’t care less about what anyone thinks of his name – it’s perfect and as long as I love it that’s all that matters.”
