Mulayam Singh Yadav did not say BJP will win UP polls; statement from 2015 Bihar polls – Alt News

A breaking news graphic plate that carries a quote by SP leader and ex-Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is circulating on social media. The purported quote, “I can see that BJP will come to power (मुझे बीजेपी सत्ता में आती दिख रही है),” has been shared in the context of the upcoming elections in UP. Another graphic plate has been shared along with this that shows Yadav saying that BJP and SP follow the same ideology on nationalism, borders and language (राष्ट्रवाद, सीमा और भाषा पर बीजेपी-सपा की एक).

Several users have shared the graphic plate and criticised Yadav for colluding with the RSS.

A few users have also linked the alleged statement to Yadav’s recent meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at the wedding reception of vice president Venkaiah Naidu’s granddaughter in Delhi.

संघ प्रमुख मोहन भागवत से मिलने के बाद मुलायम सिंह यादव को लग रहा है उत्तर प्रदेश में बीजेपी सरकार बन रही है!!

Old statement

We found that the video which carried these graphic plates was shared on social media in 2017. This itself proves that Mulayam Singh Yadav’s statement was not made ahead of the 2022 UP elections.

मुलायन सिंह यादव का बड़ा बयान।

मुझे बीजेपी सत्ता में आती दिख रही है – मुलायम सिंह यादव।

A keyword search on Google took us to the original video from 2015. It was posted by Samachar Plus on YouTube. “Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said that the wave was in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party and that the saffron party was going to form the next government in Bihar,” reads the video description.

The statement was also reported by other news channels ahead of the 2015 Bihar elections. It must be noted that the SP had pulled out of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) of political parties to contest Bihar polls against the BJP.

Mulayam Singh Yadav’s statement from 2015 ahead of Bihar polls has, therefore, been misrepresented as a remark made ahead of the upcoming UP elections where SP is fighting against the BJP.
