Motorola’s next big Edge flagship gets a new name and a rumored price tag

Even though it may seem unnecessarily convoluted and confusing at first glance, Motorola’s high-end product portfolio is not that hard to understand, especially if you view it through the eyes of a potential buyer in a given market rather than from a global perspective.

Last year, for instance, the company’s main hero device was released under the Edge+ (2022) name stateside and as the Edge 30 Pro in select European territories after making its China-exclusive Edge X30 debut way back at the end of 2021.
Similarly, the Moto X40 went on sale for Chinese power users in December 2022 before expanding to the old continent as the Edge 40 Pro and the US under the Edge+ (2023) moniker.
The only problem with that is the latter two things haven’t happened yet, although we’re pretty sure they will soon enough. The existence of a US-bound Motorola Edge Plus 2023 model is today “corroborated” by a Google Play Console listing that even appears to “confirm” the presence of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor under the handset’s hood.
Of course, nothing is technically confirmed, guaranteed, or etched in stone until Motorola itself makes an official announcement, but as unofficial information goes, this is as close to gospel as these things get.

In addition to packing the same state-of-the-art Qualcomm-made SoC as the China-only Moto X40, the Edge+ (2023) is seemingly likely to offer a whopping 12 gigs of RAM, at least in one top-of-the-line configuration.

The frequently discounted Motorola Edge+ (2022), mind you, is available in a single 512GB storage variant with “just” 8GB memory in the US, so you probably shouldn’t rule out the possibility of seeing only one Edge+ (2023) model with 12 gigs of the good stuff sometime soon.

That may not sound obscene by 2023 Android flagship standards, but it is €100 higher than what the Edge 30 Pro currently costs in markets like Germany. If Motorola plans a similar hike for the US, the Edge+ (2023) could start as high as $1,100… and hopefully, drop below the $999 mark shortly after its presumably imminent release.

Both the Motorola Edge+ (2023) and Edge 40 Pro, which remember are likely to be virtually identical, should rock an insanely smooth 165Hz 6.67-inch OLED screen, two 50MP cameras joined by a third 12MP rear-facing shooter, a 4,600mAh battery equipped with 125W charging capabilities, and an aggressively curved overall design, thus bidding for the title of best Android phone this year with relative ease.
