Mother’s Day Special: Soha Ali Khan shares how Sharmila Tagore helped her embrace motherhood
Mother’s Day is a unique celebration of the love and connection between a mother and child. It’s a time when we show our respect and gratitude for all the hardships and hard work our mothers go through for us. Bollywood actresses, who are renowned for their beauty and talent, are also renowned for being devoted moms and daughters. On this Mother’s Day, let’s take a look at some heartwarming messages shared by Soha Ali Khan.
Recently, we asked the actress about the impact of motherhood in her life. Soha said, “I think motherhood is one of those life-changing experiences. “In fact, I would say it just doesn’t change life; you actually begin an entire new life, and most people take some time to find their feet and a sense of balance.”
She further talked about the changes in her life and said, “I mean, I certainly took my time; I was obsessed with my child. She became the centre of my attention, and I was getting myself, my family, and my friends things that had been so important to me at one point in time. It’s like when you fall in love, you know it’s really hard, and all your friends give up on you. It was like that when I became a mother, and I loved it.” But I also recognised that I needed to step back, find myself, and embrace the part of my life that was not just about being a mother. And so slowly I got to work, working out, washing my hair, watching daytime TV, and also hanging out with friends,” she added.
She also added, “Motherhood is amazing, actually, but don’t let it subsume you, and I am very lucky to be surrounded by strong women with dreams, passion, and ambitions that they continue to embrace even after motherhood, i.e., my own mother.”
Talking about work-life balance in regard to motherhood, Soha Ali Khan said, “The work-life balance is there for you if you want it, if you can manage the guilt, if you can delegate and allow others to help you raise your child. My mother was at the peak of her career when she chose to have my brother, but she continued to work for many years, even today, at 78, when she is still working. She has really helped me with the early fumbly states of being a mother when I let her help me because our generation has all the answers and we don’t need anyone.”
She concluded, “Perhaps the most important thing I’ve learned from her is not to finish my daughter’s sentences, not to get into power struggles, and not to forget to look after myself. So, I would just say, ‘Remember, Happy Mother’s Day is about celebrating mothers, but also to celebrate and work on being mothers.’ ”
