Most quiet UK airports to fly from as Britons face summer of travel chaos

Britons heading abroad this summer could face queues and flight delays as a result of strike action by airline and airport workers.

London Gatwick, the UK’s second busiest airport is preparing for travel chaos later this month when almost 1,000 staff, including ground and baggage handling workers, will take industrial action over pay.

Holidaymakers have been warned of significant disruption and inevitable delays to their journey as a result.

While strike action has not been announced at London Heathrow, Britons looking to dodge the influx of passengers at the UK’s busiest airports may consider travelling from smaller destinations.

According to a new report by experts at ePower Trucks, there are four places that take the top spots as the quietest ports.

Humberside

Britons headed to Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Bourgas, Bulgaria or Cornwall (Newquay) can travel from Humberside, North Lincolnshire.

Located away from major metropolitan areas, the airport has less air time and fewer flights than busier alternatives.

With just four airlines and four destinations, Humberside welcomes just 261,132 passengers per year compared to 61,599,196 at Heathrow, and 32,839,000 at Gatwick.

Norwich

Travellers in East England can benefit from a smoother journey from Norwich if they’re headed to one of their six destinations.

These include Cyprus, Greece, Lapland, Amsterdam, Spain, Turkey and the UK. Passengers do have a range of specific holiday hotspots to choose from within this small selection, however.

The airport operates Tui flights to Paphos, Corfu, Crete, Rhodes, Ibiza, Majorca, Menorca and Tenerife and KLM Airways is responsible for trips from Norwich to Amsterdam.

With just 528,153 passengers welcomed each year, the airport is much smaller and very quiet compared to the UK’s main ports.

Bournemouth

Due to its location on the south coast of England, Bournemouth is away from major metropolitan areas which is why they have less air time.

The airport has three airlines and a range of destinations including popular holiday hotspots like Ibiza, Majorca, Cyprus, Malta and Maderia.

Popular direct journeys include:

  1. Girona, Spain
  2. Bilbao, Spain
  3. Malaga, Spain
  4. Murcia, Spain
  5. Rhodes, Greece
  6. Zante, Greece
  7. Corfu, Greece

  21. Krakow, Poland
  22. Milan, Italy,
  23. Prague, Czech Republic
  24. Vienna, Austria
  25. Venice, Italy
  26. Reykjavik, Iceland

Newquay, Cornwall

This airport is located on the coast of Cornwall, in the rural southwest of England. Newquay operates fewer international and long-haul flights with just four airlines.

Direct flight destinations include Faro, Alicante, Dusseldorf, Malaga, Zurich, and Copenhagen, though passengers can also fly elsewhere in England, Ireland and Scotland.
