Moses fires up at journos amid contract grilling

Parramatta halfback Mitchell Moses sparred with journalists as frustrations around his ongoing contract stalemate threatened to boil over.

In what was supposed to be a press conference previewing his 200th NRL game this week, Moses was – of course – peppered with questions about his future with the Eels.

A Sydney Morning Herald report a fortnight ago said Moses had decided to knock back a huge offer from his former club, Wests Tigers, and was poised to recommit to the blue and gold team.

The 28-year-old himself told media he wanted to have his future sorted before the 2023 season kicked off, but nothing was announced by the time the Eels lost to the Storm on Thursday.

On Monday, Moses became annoyed when asked whether it was fair on his coach, Brad Arthur, who has also been questioned constantly about his playmaker’s decision.

“What’s dragging on? I still have a year on my contract,” Moses fired back.

Reports say Moses has a four-year extension on the table from Parramatta, but the Tigers have gone hard with a five-year deal said to be worth $6.5 million.

He also has an option in his current contract for next season, which he is yet to activate.

Moses would not divulge any details about why an announcement is yet to be made.

“These things take time, I’ve left it with my management, they’ve let me fully focus on football,” he said.

“I don’t know if (I am) being greedy. People don’t know about the numbers (in the contracts), people are just guessing, journalists are guessing… they have no idea.

“Parramatta have been great and allowed me to just worry about my footy.

“I’ve got a manager to make that decision, they worry about that side, I worry about football. That’s why you have a manager.”

The Eels host the Sharks on Friday night at CommBank Stadium.
