Morrisons changes its loyalty scheme to rival Tesco and Sainsbury’s
We’re all grateful for a discount that comes with a loyalty card, and Morrisons is finally cottoning on.
Set to rival Tesco and Sainsbury’s own schemes, Morrisons is bringing back its More Card loyalty scheme, which will make food shopping that bit less costly.
The Morrisons More scheme replaces the My Morrisons scheme, and it can be used as a physical card or app, allowing customers to earn points.
This will work on selected products in store and online and at Morrisons petrol stations.
Morrisons is also bringing back ‘Morrisons Fivers’, so once a customer has earned 5,000 points, they get £5 credit to use on a future shop.
Currently, customers can earn 100 points for every five pack of doughnuts costing 89p, or 500 points for every £5 spent at the pizza counter.
Discounts are also available to Morrisons More customers. This week, discounts include one-litre spirits for £17, Pringles for £1.25 and 20% off fresh fish from the counter each Friday.
Rachel Eyre, chief customer and marketing officer at Morrisons, said: ‘Customers have been telling us how much they have missed the Morrisons Fivers and so we’ve brought them back as part of a radical overhaul of the Morrisons loyalty scheme.’
The discounts on products are comparable to the Tesco Clubcard.
Co-op have also shared plans to cut prices for customers who sign up to be members, allegedly saving the average shopper up to £300 a year.
Sainsbury’s looked to Tesco’s Clubcard for inspiration it seems, as they launched changes to their Nectar card scheme – now an additional 300 products are included in discounts.
The deals for those using Nectar include Heinz Baked Beans discounted by a third, costing shoppers 95p instead of £1.40, while the price of a 200g jar of Nescafe Gold Blend is cut by more than half, from £8.10 to £4.
As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, supermarkets are competing for customers who need discounts to get by.
