Morecambe thrashing injects positivity into Charlton ahead of run-in

A brace from Corey Blackett-Taylor and goals from Miles Leaburn and Scott Fraser gave Dean Holden’s side a convincing win in this Sky Bet League One clash.

In many ways this will be a season to forget for Charlton fans, but last night’s win may have quelled any fears that the off-field rumblings could distract the players enough to threaten relegation.

The last ten games of the League One season will be about just getting through in hope that a productive summer can be a fresh start for the whole club.

Boss Dean Holden, speaking to BBC Radio London, said: “As happy as I am with that performance, it’s really frustrating because we’ve not done that enough this season.

“We’ve had issues with consistency.”

Some momentum can also be gained from a strong end to the season, as Charlton must look to return to the Championship in the next campaign.

Charlton only average 1.17 goals per game in away fixtures, so four goals on the road represents a really promising result. Charlton can only hope that in this rollercoaster of a season that the significant away win signals a run of positivity, as the whole club looks to get back on track.

They face second-to-bottom Cambridge United on Saturday hoping to prove they have turned a corner.
