More to come from Leyton Orient says Archibald
Theo Archibald says there is more to come from League Two leaders Leyton Orient, as they prepare to host Salford City at Brisbane Road this weekend.
O’s sit a point clear of Stevenage at the top, with a game in hand, following back-to-back wins at Carlisle last weekend and against Gillinham in east London in midweek.
And Archibald is in a rich vein of form himself, having scored twice in Cumbria and picked up two assists back on home soil.
“I still think there’s more to come,” he told Orient Live.
“After 15 games if you’d said we’d be on 36 points, I think everyone would’ve said absolutely, we’ll take 30 points to be honest after 15 games.
“To have 36 points is a fantastic return and I think there have been a few performances when you can say that’s us at our best, but I think there’s been quite a lot of games where we can take it up a notch and that’s exciting, it’s not something to be concerned about.
“Certainly in the changing room it’s something to be excited about. Knowing there’s at least another gear we can go into and hopefully start picking up bigger results.
“I don’t think it’s right to be thinking about anything beyond the next game but I look at the league table and I see no reason why we can’t keep up this good run of form to carry us into Christmas time and then look at things from there.”
Salford currently sit in fifth place, following their 2-0 success at Hartlepool on Tuesday, and Archibald expects one of the toughest tests to date this term.
He added: “In regards to Salford being a bogey team, I saw somewhere the other day that you hadn’t beaten them in the National League and then last year we drew 1-1 with them and lost 2-0 at home.
“I personally don’t really look at it like that at all. I think it’s going to be a tough test, they’ve obviously been pushing for a number of years now, to get out of this division and haven’t quite made it.
“They’ve changed the philosophy in which they’re trying to get out and they’re playing quite good football at the moment.
“It’s going to be one of our toughest tests of the season, but I think it will be a good game. Both teams try to play decent football, I’m just excited for every game to be honest.
“We’re beginning to pick up a little bit of form again in terms of the attack, we’ve scored five goals in two games now, I just want to get to as many league games as possible, come around thick and fast and keep picking up three points.”
A 7,000-plus crowd saw Paul Smyth and Ruel Sotiriou find the net in Tuesday’s win against Gillingham, while the attendance figure was closer to 9,000 when O’s last played at home on a Saturday and were held to a 0-0 draw by Northampton Town.
Archibald praised the levels of support, revealing how much it helps the players.
“The numbers have been so much better this season than they were in the bleak winter that we had last year. I can’t stress enough how much of a difference it makes,” he said.
“When the stadium is looking pretty full, we’ve got good backing and they’re making good noise it does make such a huge difference.
“We all enjoy it. I hope we’re making you all enjoy it and lets just continue it. We’re all in it together and, game by game, hopefully we’ll achieve something great by April time.”
