Monty Don comes face to face with SNAKE as he leaves fans terrified

Monty Don frightened his followers on Instagram as he shared a photo of him coming face to face with a rather large snake.

The Herefordshire-based star told fans the creature had “got very tangled” in the chicken wire he has in his backyard.

Monty, 67, bravely managed to set the snake free and watched as it “went off” into the distance.

In view of his 1.1 million followers, Monty shared an up-close image of the dark green coloured snake as the wire was wrapped around its neck.

He typed: “This grass snake got very tangled in the chicken wire ( probably after eggs) but managed to free it and it went off under its own steam OK.”

In response, fans applauded the star for helping the snake but also shared their horror over how large the reptile appeared to be.

One commented: “Thank goodness for no snakes here in Ireland.”

A second remarked: “Omg are these actually roaming around in grass?”(sic)

While a third added: “Glad it was OK. Our species need all the help they can get.”

A fourth said: “I didn’t know there were snakes in England!”

Monty is often found outdoors and has spoken on the benefits of gardening over the years for his mental health.

The star previously shared he went through bouts of intense depression, which saw his temper flare up in ways he called “unreasonable”.

“I went to see a healer,” Monty revealed. “I can’t remember if he was a herbalist, acupuncturist, homoeopath or white-coated faith healer, but I liked him.”

“He had me abstain from tea, coffee and alcohol and described my various symptoms with unerring accuracy,” the star continued.

“After a few months of this puritanical regime, they told me I was unhealable.”

The healer told Monty the only way to overcome his depression and anger was to give up work and seek solace in nature – which led the star to the path he is on today, as one of the nation’s most-loved gardeners.

Monty has been open about his mental health, sharing he periodically suffers from relapses into depression, but he has gardening to thank for keeping him emotionally stable.
