Model spends over £20k covering herself in tattoos to tackle body image issues
Model and content creator Bethany Moore has shared how spending more than £20,000 and 300 hours on tattoos has helped boost her self-esteem.
Now, she keeps getting marriage proposals from men online, which her boyfriend finds ‘hilarious’.
‘People on social media tend to have mixed reactions,’ said Bethany, 26. ‘I have received my fair share of trolls and haters saying I am “self-harming”.
‘I have also got quite a few marriage offers from men online saying things like “I like you, and want to marry you” or sending me pictures of myself saying “you on our wedding day”.
‘My boyfriend, Josh, finds the people who send these messages hilarious, but also feels lucky to be the one that is my partner and hopes to one day ask the same question.’
Bethany fell in love with body art after struggling with her body image as a child.
‘I was an overweight kid and have suffered through weight issues my entire life,’ she said.
‘I hated the way I looked in mirrors and was incredibly self-conscious throughout my childhood.
‘This was the main reason I got tattoos, I like looking at my skin now.
‘Getting tattoos and having beautiful art on my skin to look at also inspired me to take up the fitness where I’ve smashed running and weight lifting goals I never would have guessed was possible!
‘So it’s had a massive positive impact on my health both physically as well as mentally.’
Bethany, who also has nine piercings in her ears, tongue and belly button, started her tattoo journey with a tribute to her family pet.
‘I got my first tattoo shortly before my nineteenth birthday, my family dog Turbo had died and I wanted to honour him,’ she said.
‘However, I didn’t just want a portrait of him, he had this quirk where he howled like a wolf and I got a wolf to symbolise that on my ribcage.
‘I loved how that looked, and my family was supportive and understanding, I decided to expand from there.
‘My next tattoo was an angel on my back that I had covered as it wasn’t in the traditional Japanese style I love.
‘All my tattoos are in the traditional Japanese style and tell a story.
‘I have the majority of my body covered with them except my face, armpits and left leg.’
Bethany doesn’t just love her tattoos, she also feels like they set her on a better path in life.
‘I wouldn’t be where I am today, or the person I am today without tattooing,’ she explained.
‘I am now a model and I spend most of my time in front of a camera which is something I could not have imagined for myself in my childhood.
‘I am in the happiest relationship of my life and my partner is also a member of the tattooing community which is what brought us together.
‘This one decision gave me so much, I wouldn’t change it for the world and I have no regrets.’
