Mitsubishi’s hot new SUV exposed

The Japanese brand is preparing to spice up its future SUVs with its latest show car revealing what it has in store for its next range of vehicles.

Mitsubishi has given a glimpse of its future hot SUV.

The Japanese brand revealed the Vision Ralliart SUV Concept ahead of the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon.

The concept draws on the brand’s rally pedigree and Mitsubishi says it shows the potential of the new Ralliart sub-brand.

Based on the current Outlander the concept focuses on acceleration, cornering and braking in all road and weather conditions.

Massive 22-inch wheels and a wide stance provide ample grip, while giant brakes add improved stopping power.

It also looks the part with blacked out styling and plenty of chunky body parts including large wheel arches, front and rear bumpers and fenders. There are several aerodynamic features including a rear diffuser and a radiator shutter in the front grille that give the SUV a sporty edge.

The brand says the concept isn’t slated for production but would have an influence on future vehicles.

Mitsubishi is expected to reveal several Ralliart-inspired vehicles at the upcoming show.

The brand quietly revealed the resurrection of the Ralliart brand during the announcement of its financial results in 2021.

It is rumoured to be working on a Ralliart-inspired Triton ute that would tackle the tough trucks such as the Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota HiLux Rugged X.

Both rivals sell strongly and Mitsubishi is one of the few major ute makers that doesn’t offer a tougher version of its dual-cab ute.

These dual-cab utes come with beefed up off-road performance, macho looks and an inflated price tag to match. The Ranger Raptor will set back buyers about $85,000 drive-away.

Mitsubishi also announced it would launch a range of Ralliart parts.
