MANILA, Philippines—The Miss Universe Philippines (MUPH) Organization has unveiled a new logo, and National Director Shamcey Supsup-Lee said what was released on the pageant’s Facebook page is just one of the two new insignias that will serve as symbols for the competition from here on.

While the old one featured the same silhouette of a lady used by the international Miss Universe Organization (MUO), the first of the new logos depicts a shell with a huge pearl before it, and the eight-rayed sun used on the Philippine flag resting above, with three stars cascading down on each side. It was released as the new profile picture of the pageant’s Facebook page on June 23.

“The logo symbolizes a fresh and dynamic approach, featuring an element inspired by the Jewelmer crown,” Lee told the Inquirer in an online interview. Jewelmer is the provider of the “La Mer En Majeste” crown that debuted in the 2022 Miss Universe Philippines pageant, the national competition’s third edition.

The national director also revealed to the Inquirer, “we will also be launching another logo featuring the silhouette of our current winner, Michelle Dee. So watch out for that as well.” She also provided the Inquirer an exclusive glimpse of the second logo which will be unveiled soon.

The new clamshell logo, however, was first unveiled at the launching of the Miss Universe Philippines-Leyte organization, the national pageant’s accredited partner in the Visayan province. The program was held a few days before the MUPH changed its Facebook profile picture.

Lee confirmed it to be the first time the new logo was shown in public, and that MUPH’s social media eventually followed. “The unveiling of the new logo for [MUPH] represents our preparation for the upcoming launch of our merchandise line,” she said.

She said the logos’ use is ongoing in their merchandise and product collaborations, which will be launched all at the same time soon. “The logos are interchangeable. But we have products for men/unisex, so perhaps the clamshell one would be more apt for those, so that our market won’t be only girls and girls-at-heart,” she explained.

But MUPH’s ongoing strategy work does not only involve merchandising. It has also rolled out an accredited partnerships program that aims to secure delegates for the national pageant’s succeeding editions. The first to be launched was the one in Leyte for the province’s representative in the 2024 Miss Universe Philippines pageant.

Its partnership also extended beyond the country’s shores through the United States-based Miss Filipina International pageant that gathers women of Filipino descent or ethnicity from different countries. The US organizer said three ladies will be sent to the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, while two other delegates will compete in The Miss Philippines competition that will choose the Filipino delegates to the Miss Supranational and Miss Charm contests. Both national tilts are mounted by Empire Philippines.

One of the 2023 Miss Filipina International candidates is pageant veteran Beatriz McLelland, who has competed in several national and international competitions. She was crowned Miss Teen International Philippines in 2019, then later captured the Miss Teen Intercontinental crown in India. In 2022, she received the Miss Eco Teen Philippines title at the Miss World Philippines pageant, then later represented the country in the Miss Eco Teen International competition in Egypt where she was proclaimed first runner-up.
