Microsoft starts to roll out new Media Player app to these Windows 11 users – Times of India
Microsoft has started to roll out the new Media Player app for Windows 11. The app is, for now, available only to users who have enrolled in the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider program. The app was first shown by the company in a Windows Insider webcast but it was quickly removed. It carries version number 11.2110.34.0 and users will need to have Windows 11 build 22471 or newer on your PC to install it. The app will not work if you try to sideload it on older versions of the operating system.
Replaces Microsoft’s default music player app
The Media Player app replaces Microsoft’s default music player app – Groove Music in Windows 11 and Windows 10. The company has revealed that users’ Groover Music library and playlists will automatically migrate to the new app. The dedicated playback view features album art and artist imagery which will appear in both full screen and mini player.
The app also includes support for browsing, managing, and watching local video collection too. All content in the music and video folders on the PC will appear automatically in the app’s library, but users can also tell Media Player where to look for additional content in app settings. Microsoft claimed that the app has also been optimised for accessibility, with improved keyboard shortcuts and access key support for keyboard users and with other assistive technologies.
The announcement was shared by Microsoft’s Dave Grochocki in a Windows Insider blog. “Media Player includes full support for browsing, managing, and watching your local video collection too! All your content in the music and video folders on your PC will appear automatically in your library, but you can also tell Media Player where to look for additional content in app settings. We have also optimized for accessibility, with improved keyboard shortcut and access key support for keyboard users and with other assistive technologies.” Dave wrote in the blog.
