Michael J. Fox says he ‘won’t make it to 80’ in Parkinson’s battle

“You don’t die from Parkinson’s. You die with Parkinson’s.”

He explained how the incurable disease impacted him: “I’m not going to lie to you, it’s getting harder, it’s getting tougher.

“Every day is tougher. But that’s the way it is.”

Whilst the condition doesn’t directly cause death, it can cause a greater risk of injuries.

He shared that he had spinal surgery for a benign tumour, which affected his ability to walk and led to various problems.

Michael revealed that he had broken two arms, one hand and had also broken bones in his face.

Falling is considered one of the disease’s major results, with Michael confirming that it was “a big killer”.

“I’ve been thinking about the mortality of it… I’m not gonna be 80.” (sic)

The NHS describes the disease as a condition where brain parts become increasingly damaged over many years.

Symptoms include involuntary body tremors, slow movements and stiff muscles.

The interview will air on CBS, Sunday, April 30.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation has worked since 2000 to fund research and find a cure.

He shared that the non-profit organisation was working to identify the disease before it was present.

The actor also posted a trailer for his Apple TV documentary on Instagram that will look back on his life and career.

In one scene the director Davis Guggenheim, 59, says: “The sad sack story is Michael J. Fox gets this debilitating disease, and it crushes him.

The actor then responded with “Yeah, that’s boring.

The documentary, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie, will be available on the streaming platform on May 12.
