Michael Clarke is the latest Australia legend to take aim at Ollie Robinson, telling the England bowler he is lucky to be getting a game in the Ashes.

Robinson received criticism from Aussie greats Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting after a somewhat bizarre send-off during the first Ashes Test.

Usman Khawaja scored a superb century to rescue Australia in the first innings butRobinson still opted to send an expletive-ridden send-off his way, saying: ‘F*** off, you f*****g p***k’.

At the end of day three, Robinson defended his outburst and said England had received brutal sledging from the Australians for years.

Several Baggy Green heroes did not take too kindly to Robinson’s antics at Edgbaston and ex-captain Clarke has now piled on, telling Big Sports Breakfast: ‘He needs to shush.

‘If England were fully fit you wouldn’t even get a game, Ollie. If Jofra Archer was fit or if Mark Wood was fully fit, Robinson would be back playing clubbies.

‘I actually don’t know what he’s doing. If James Anderson is saying all this, he’s got street cred. He’s played 180 Test matches, he’s got a lot of wickets.

‘This dude has been around for five minutes. He needs to concentrate on taking wickets. Ollie, just keep taking five-fors and then you can say what you like.’

Clarke, who played 115 Tests, also slammed Brendon McCullum for allegedly telling his England players that ‘it feels like we’ve won’ after the two-wicket defeat in the Ashes opener.

In a column for Wisden.com, Robinson said: ‘Baz told us after the game, “It feels like we’ve won, lads.” We’ve entertained the world, and we’ve put the Aussies on the back foot. For him to say that after a loss is quite significant for us.’

But Clarke responded: ‘To me when you win it feels like you win, when you lose it feels like you lose.

‘If you had have had a draw, then you can think about saying that but you actually lost. That’s called the ultimate positivity.

‘It felt like a win when you lost? That’s a different feeling to what I ever remember when we lost.’

England will attempt to level the five-match series when the second Test starts at Lord’s on Wednesday.

Looking ahead to the second match of the series, ex-England star Ian Bell told Betfair: ‘I know Australia have a good record at Lord’s and they will be confident.

‘But I’m hoping England are very aggressive. Will it take Australia by surprise if England come even harder? I’m not sure.

‘This is Ashes cricket and both sides have teed up this match to be an absolute classic. There is so much on the line, but every player will be so excited to get out there.

‘Nothing beats playing at Lord’s and do it at this juncture of the series is an enthralling prospect. And if England take the spoils this time around, 1-1 will set us up for perfectly for the remainder.’
