Meta: Meta removes 28 million ‘bad’ content on Facebook, Instagram in India: Report – Times of India

Facebook parent Meta has released its monthly report saying that the company removed over 28 million pieces of ‘bad’ content across 13 policies for Facebook platforms and across 12 policies for Instagram in India in February.
In the report, which is released in compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021, the company said that it actioned over 24.8 million pieces of content across 13 policies for Facebook and 3.3 million pieces of content across 12 policies for Instagram from February 1-February 28.
Under the new IT Rules 2021, big digital and social media platforms, with more than 5 million users, have to publish monthly compliance reports.

Bad content reports received for Facebook
In February, Meta claimed that it received 1,647 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism, and responded to 100% of those reports. “Of these reports, we provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 585 cases,” the company added.
It said that it also took action on 379 of the 1,062 reports where specialised review was needed. Meta reviewed content as per its policies. “The remaining 683 reports were reviewed but may not have been auctioned,” Meta informed.

Bad content reports received for Instagram
According to Meta, it received 14,216 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism on Instagram in February and responded to all of those reports.
The social media company said that it has pre-established channels which users can use to report content for specific violations.
“We measure the number of pieces of content (such as posts, photos, videos or comments) we take action on for going against our standards. Taking action could include removing a piece of content from Facebook or Instagram or covering photos or videos that may be disturbing to some audiences with a warning,” said Meta.

WhatsApp bans 45 lakh accounts
The latest report comes a few days after another Meta-owned app, WhatsApp said in its monthly compliance report that it banned over 45 lakh bad accounts in India.
WhatsApp banned 4,597,400 accounts “and 1,298,000 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users” between February 1 and February 28, the company said.
