Meta appoints Sandhya Devanathan as India head
The appointment occurs approximately a week after Ajit Mohan, the country head of Meta India, left to work for rival Snap. Abhijit Bose, the head of WhatsApp India, and Rajiv Aggarwal, director of public policy at Meta India, have also departed the organisation.
In the interim, Manish Chopra, Director and Head of Partnerships for Facebook India (Meta), is in charge of the business.
Devanathan will focus on bringing the organisation’s business and revenue priorities together and report to Dan Neary, vice president, Meta APAC and be a part of the APAC leadership team.
Once she transition to her new role on January 1, 2023, she will move back to India to lead the India organisation and strategy.
As part of her role, Devanathan will spearhead the company’s India charter and strengthen the strategic relationships with the country’s leading brands, creators, and advertisers, among others.

Devanathan has had a career spanning 22 years across banking, payments and technology. She joined Meta in 2016 and helped build the Singapore and Vietnam businesses and teams, as well as Meta’s e-commerce initiatives in Southeast Asia.
“India is at the forefront of digital adoption and Meta has launched many of our top products, such as Reels and Business Messaging, in India first. We have also recently launched JioMart on WhatsApp, which is our first end-to-end shopping experience in India. I’m pleased to welcome Sandhya as our new leader for India,” said Marne Levine, chief business officer of Meta.
