Met Police launch murder investigation as they hunt for killer of mum-of-two
The Met Police have launched a murder investigation to find the killer of a mum-of-two in East London. The body of the victim, named locally as Yasmin Begum, was discovered by the officers at home after the alarm was raised by school staff when she did not arrive to pick up her children.
The Met Police found her body on Thursday (March 25) just after 4.05pm at a property on Globe Road, Bethnal Green, in Tower Hamlets. She had been stabbed to death. Police officers confirmed that she died at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Laurence Smith, who is leading the investigation, says a team of officers are “working around the clock to trace the person responsible”. She added: “My thoughts are with this woman’s family as they come to terms with their tragic loss.”

She added: “It is heart-breaking that yet another woman has been killed. All women and girls have the right to feel safe, at any time, day or night, in public or at home, and we will do everything we can to find those responsible for this.”
Teams of officers have been seen conducting searches around the area, looking through bins and conducting sweeps as they search for possible evidence. Forensic officers are also at work and have been seen erecting a crime scene tent near to the property where it is understood Yasmin lived.
One local resident, who preferred to stay anonymous, said to MyLondon that the mum took her kids to school yesterday but never arrived to pick them up. They said: “You just think about those little kids of hers. It’s just so sad. It’s a terrible thing. Your mum takes you to school and then you never see her again.”
One friend described the woman as “full of life” and a “fantastic mother”. He told MyLondon : “I haven’t seen a mother like that. Fantastic mother – I would not doubt that for a second. She’s teaching them privately online lessons – investing in them big time.”
DCI Smith said: “Tackling violence against women is one of the Met’s top priorities. Police officers, including forensic specialists, remain at the scene. We will continue to carry out door-to-door enquiries and local people will also see additional police in the area.
“We are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone with any information, to contact us. No matter how insignificant you think your information might be, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. It could be key to this investigation.”
Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 26
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 4738/24Mar. To remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
