Mesut Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut has aimed a dig at former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over his move to Chelsea in the summer.

Aubameyang left Arsenal in controversial circumstances in January after he fell out with boss Mikel Arteta and was stripped of the club’s captaincy over disciplinary issues.

The 33-year-old, who scored 92 goals across 163 games for Arsenal, moved to Barcelona but after just six months he returned to England by joining Chelsea.

Aubameyang filmed an interview with A Jewellers on their YouTube channel shortly after leaving Arsenal for Barcelona – which was only released last month – in which he aimed several digs at Arteta after their high-profile falling out.

The Gabon international has scored three goals across his first 10 games for the Blues and Ozil’s agent Sogut has now aimed a dig at the striker.

‘[Mesut Ozil] could never play for another English club, he’s not like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,’ Sogut told Tribal Football.

‘He loved his time at Arsenal is still in contact with a lot of players, not least Bukayo Saka, they have a special relationship.’

Ozil left Arsenal in 2021 after an eight-year spell at the Emirates and is currently playing for Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.

He joined the Gunners from Real Madrid for around £42.5m back in 2013 and for a while was a fantastic player – winning three FA Cups during his time at the club.

However, it all went sour in the latter part of his stay in north London as he eventually departed for Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Ozil failed to make an impact there and was once again frozen out before joining Istanbul Basaksehir.

In July, Arsenal’s technical director Edu hit out at the club’s former big-money flops for ‘killing’ the Gunners.

Arsenal were forced to pay off both Ozil and Aubameyang, who were on long contacts with massive wages.
