Mercedes driver arrested after police chase in Newton Heath
A motorist has been arrested following a police pursuit in Newton Heath.
Police said the driver failed to stop for officers and was driving dangerously and using the wrong side of the road.
The vehicle, a Mercedes, was then crashed and abandoned, police said, before the driver fled on foot.
According to a tweet from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), officers caught up with the suspect before detaining and arresting them on suspicion of numerous offences including drink driving.

Images of the scene show the Mercedes with a missing wheel and substantial damage to the driver side. The vehicle appears to have mounted the kerb and is on the wrong side of the road on a roundabout at Lord Sheldon Way.
Police confirmed that there were no injuries.
In a tweet sent at 2:21am on Saturday (January 22), GMP wrote: “This Mercedes failed to stop for #XT78 in @GMPNewtonHeath driving dangerously and using the wrong side of Lord Sheldon Way in @GMPTamesideN
“Crashed, abandoned, chased on foot, detained and arrested for numerous offences including drink driving. Fortunately no injuries.”
