McMahon: Dagenham & Redbridge can’t feel sorry for themselves
A 3-2 loss at lowly Scunthorpe United saw Daggers drop to 11th in the table, five points off a play-off spot, ahead of a midweek meeting with Aldershot Town.
And they visit leaders Notts County on Saturday (5.20pm), before a trip to Maidenhead United next Tuesday (February 28), in need of a boost.
“You can’t feel sorry for yourselves, football doesn’t allow you to do that,” McMahon told the club website.
“You have to get up and move forward. Life doesn’t allow you to do that, not just football. You have to be brave, take it on the chin, own it.
“I’m the manager, the results fall on me, I don’t think it falls on the players. They’re accountable for their performance and I’m accountable for the results.
“They worked hard, probably are lacking a bit of confidence and little bit of quality at certain times.”
Harry Phipps headed Daggers in front at the weekend, but the hosts turned things around to lead at the break and added a third, before Dean Rance grabbed a late consolation.
And McMahon admitted it capped a bad four weeks for his side, with only three points taken from a possible 18 thanks to a home win over Solihull Moors and some reinforcements needed.
“If we rewind ourselves back to Bromley away on that Tuesday night (January 24), we were a minute away from going fifth in the league, it’s probably about a month ago I’d imagine now,” he added.
“In that month we’ve lost Josh Hare through injury, we’ve now lost Myles Weston through injury, we’ve sold Paul McCallum and Josh Walker.
“We’re probably a weaker now than we were a month ago. We know we need some new players in, to thicken the squad up.
“If you look at our bench today, I thought Sydney [Ibie] when he went on did terrific to be fair to him, he comes from Northwood, four or five levels below us.
“Young George [Saunders] is back off a horrendous leg break, he should be out on loan, Ang [Balanta] has been out for six months. The squad is really thin at the minute.
“We need some reinforcements in quickly which we know as a club, we’re looking to try and do that, we’re looking to find people that we can afford to get in and people that make us better.
“I think we’ve got plenty of potential in the squad. A lot of young players, who are exciting players who will move on and be very good players,
but I think we need a couple ready-made players to come in now to help us.”
