Mazda3, CX-30, CX-5 get new Carbon Turbo variants

Mazda Motor Corp. is adding a new Carbon Turbo trim to the Mazda3, CX-30 and CX-5 lineups for the 2024 model year.

All three vehicles will feature a turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive and distinct styling.

The automaker is combining the sleek and sporty design elements currently found in its Carbon Edition package with the zippier turbocharged engine that powers the Turbo models of the 2023 CX-5 compact crossover.

Carbon Turbo variants of the Mazda3 compact sedan and CX-30 subcompact crossover and CX-5 will all use a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine paired with a six-speed automatic that delivers up to 256 hp and 320 lb.-ft. of torque. It boosts output of the Mazda3 and CX-30 by 6 hp. Torque remains the same.

The Carbon Turbo trims will offer gloss black exterior accents, including black metallic aluminum alloy wheels, side mirrors and grille. They also will get their own exterior color option — Zircon Sand Metallic — and interiors that blend black suede, terracotta and gunmetal.

Mazda did not say if the Carbon Edition or Turbo trims would return for 2024, stating only that the Carbon Turbo would complement the previously released Carbon Edition.

Mazda also did not specify whether the Mazda3 Carbon Turbo would be available in both the 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback body styles; currently the Mazda3 Turbo is only available as a hatchback.

Pricing and specs for the new variants will be announced separately when 2024 model year information for each vehicle becomes available.
