Water concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. plans to spend P178 billion in the next 23 years to expand its wastewater management and mitigate the pollution of water bodies.
In a statement, Maynilad said the amount would be used until 2046 to fund the construction of new sewage treatment plants and sewer lines, as well as the upgrade of existing facilities.
“Besides improving the distribution of drinking water supply, our investment program also includes the laying of essential infrastructure to collect and treat the wastewater generated by households so we can ensure environmental sustainability,” said Maynilad chief operating officer Randolph Estrellado.
In the next two decades, the Manuel Pangilinan-led company will prioritize: building 18 new STPs within the West Zone; installing 360 kilometers of new sewer lines that will catch and convey used water from households into sewerage treatment plants; and upgrading 17 existing wastewater facilities.
At present, Maynilad is constructing treatment facilities and laying sewer conveyance systems in Valenzuela, Caloocan, Las Pinas and Muntinlupa. These are expected to have a combined capacity to treat 419 million liters of wastewater daily for 1.75 million residents.
Among its long-term plans include the construction of sewerage treatment plants with capacity of 140 million liters per day and installation of sewer lines.
