Max Verstappen gives brutal response when asked about Hamilton to Red Bull

Max Verstappen has ruled out Lewis Hamilton moving to Red Bull as uncertainty continues around the seven-time champion’s F1 future. Hamilton has not yet signed a new deal with the Silver Arrows despite his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

Ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, reports have linked Hamilton with a possible move to Ferrari. However, Verstappen has denied Red Bull could be an option for the Briton who is still desperate to secure an eighth world championship.

Ted Kravitz asked the Dutchman: “Could Lewis come to Red Bull?” Verstappen grinned at the question but was firm in his stance against his former title rival.

The 25-year-old responded: “No, I don’t think that’s happening.” Verstappen’s brutal shutdown comes just months after Christian Horner also ruled out a move for the Mercedes driver.

The Red Bull team principal was pushed on whether he could snap up Hamilton’s services after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in March. He explained: “What Lewis has achieved in F1 is second to none, but we’re very happy with the drivers that we have.

“They’re committed as a pair not only this season but the next season as well. So, I can’t see where we would be able to accommodate Lewis.” Earlier this week, The Mail claimed Ferrari was prepared to launch a £40million bid to bring Hamilton to the Scuderia.

The report suggested the Italian squad wanted to partner Hamilton with Charles Leclerc but could swap out the Monegasque to get a deal with Mercedes over the line.

However, Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur denied the team had made any offers to Hamilton on Thursday. Hamilton also refused to indulge the gossip and stressed the story had only emerged as people were “bored”.

Instead, he continued to pledge his allegiance to Mercedes and stressed a deal was close to being finalised. He explained: “My team is working closely behind the scenes with Toto. We’re almost at the end of having a contract ready.

“I’m having a team focused on that, so I can just do my job. That’s a much better position than I was in before, because I remember I used to do my negotiations on my own, and it was very stressful. So, I don’t have to do that anymore.”
