Matt Reeves Will Soon Work on the Batman Sequel After Signing Multi-Year First Look Deal With Warner Bros. Discovery
While the rest of the DC world is in a state of worry with the recent cancellations at Warner Bros. Discovery, Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe isn’t seem to be going anywhere, as the director has signed a first look deal with the studio.
According to Deadline, the Cloverfield director has become the person to sign a multi-year deal with the new Warner Bros. regime. The new deal will allow the studio to have the first look rights to the Matt Reeves’ work, which includes writing, directing or producing through his 6th & Idaho production company.
With this deal, the studio hopes to cement Reeves a mainstay filmmaker for Warner Bros. along with Todd Phillips, who will begin filming the Joker sequel later this year.
While Reeves will be looking to develop several projects in the coming years, it’s his work with The Batman franchise that Warner Bros. will be looking to score massively on.
Following the success of the Robert Pattinson-led Dark Knight film at the box office, the director has teased plans of expansion for beyond the silver screen. This includes TV shows based around side-characters and the city of Gotham itself.
The report suggests that Matt Reeves will soon begin writing the script the sequel alongside Mattson Tomlin, who wrote DC’s Batman: The Imposter three-issue miniseries last year.
With The Penguin Batman spinoff for HBO Max currently filming with actor Colin Farrell, it’s been stated that Reeves has plans to do another TV series which might involve Arkham in some kind of way.
In the end, it sure seems like the studio is willing to bet all their chips with the War for the Planet of Apes director, and it will be interesting to see what ideas he has brewing for DC fans to enjoy.
