Matildas rocked by Kerr injury blow ahead of WC opener

Australia’s FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign has got off to a horrible start with skipper Sam Kerr ruled out of the first two matches of the tournament.
According to the Matildas, Kerr picked up a calf injury during a training session on Wednesday.
The Matildas star released a statement on her Instagram account, confirming the news.

“I wanted to share this with everyone so there is no distraction from us doing what we came here to achieve,” she wrote.
“Of course I would have loved to have been out there tonight but I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing journey which starts now.
“Sam.”
Australia plays Ireland for its first match on Thursday night before facing Nigeria on July 27.
The World Cup hosts will hope to have Kerr back in its lineup for the final game in the group stage against Canada on Monday, July 31.
