Master Detective Archives: Rain Code – Chapter 5 Mystery Labyrinth Full SS Rank Walkthrough

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is the latest game from Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka and Too Kyo Games, and it will put your mind to the test in much the same way. As in Danganronpa, collecting evidence in Rain Code is relatively linear and straightforward, so you probably won’t need much help there,  but things get tricky once you delve into the game’s signature Mystery Labyrinths.

Much like Danganronpa’s elaborate trials, Mystery Labyrinths task you with presenting evidence and countering contradictions in a series of minigames, with a life bar being depleting if you make mistakes. You’ll also be awarded a ranking at the end of each labyrinth, up to SS, if provide all the right answers without any mistakes or lose too much health. That’s no easy task, unless you follow along with our handy guide, which provides all the Mystery Labyrinth answers for Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Chapter 5 – And Then I Was Gone. Scroll on for your cheat sheet…

Warning: There’s really no way to a guide for Master Detective Archives: Rain Code without SPOILERS, so proceed with caution.

Mystery Labyrinth Basics

Don’t worry, there isn’t really any chance of getting lost in the Mystery Labyrinth. They’re just a series of Danganronpa-style minigames, which task you with using logic and providing the right answers to progress. There will be a number of moments in each Mystery Labyrinth where you have to pick the right path or choose a multiple choice answer under a time limit, but the main meat is found in certain reoccurring minigames, specifically Reasoning Deathmatches, Shinigami Puzzles, and the final Deduction Denouement that wraps up each Labyrinth. Here’s how they work:

Reasoning Deathmatches – These are the main challenge you’ll face in Mystery Labyrinths. An opponent will hurl various statements at you, which you’ll literally have to avoid by dodging left, right, jumping, or ducking. When you see a bright red statement, you may be able to counter it by equipping the correct piece of evidence (or “Solution Key”) and slashing it with your sword. Usually if you correctly counter 1 or 2 statements, you’ll defeat your Reasoning Deathmatch opponent and can move on.

Shinigami Puzzles – Here you simply have to select letters rotating around Shinigami’s barrel in order to spell out a key phrase.

God Shinigami Rush – A simple action-based minigame. Shinigami will have to deflect iron balls, break through walls, and leap over obstacles in order to finally break down the culprit’s defenses. You’ll also have to answer a few multiple choice questions under a time limit.

Deduction Denouement – In this final part of the Mystery Labyrinth, you have to place key pieces of evidence in chronological order in the pages of a manga-style comic book in order to accurately recreate the events of the case.

This functions similarly to the “Continuous Attack” minigame from Chapter 1. Your opponent throws various potential answers to a question at you. If they’re not the correct answer, just do nothing, and you’ll automatically dodge. Only press the Y button once you see the right answer.

  • Question 1 – “What is the reason for the unending rain in Kanai Ward?” Answer: To block out the weakness of the homunculi.
  • Question 2 – “What is the source of nutrition for Kanai Ward’s residents?” Answer: Meat buns

Shinigami Puzzle 2

Deduction Denouement

Wait, what? The Deduction Denouement already? Yeah, this Mystery Labyrinth is a little different, as we’ll get to in a moment. Here’s the order your should place the images in the Deduction Denouement graphic novel…

1 – Homunculi

2 – Blood test

3 – Dr. Huesca

4 – Sunlight

5 – Rain cloud generator

Battle with Makoto 1

Time to end this Mystery Dungeon (and the game) with a big showdown against Makoto! Some of these questions are multiple choice, others are “Continuous Attack” style questions where you have to wait for the right response then strike it down.

  • Question 1 – “When did Makoto arrive at Kanai Ward?” Answer: Three years ago
  • Question 2 – “What was happening in Kanai Ward when Makoto arrived?” Answer: Blank Week Mystery
  • Question 3 – “What did Makoto do to protect Kanai Ward?” Answer: Isolation.
  • Question 4 – “What did Makoto do as the CEO?” Answer: Ended homunculus research
  • Question 5 – “What crime did Makoto commit?” Answer: Mass kidnapping
  • Question 6 – “The Master Detectives were assembled…” Answer: To oust Yomi

Shinigami Puzzle 3

Battle with Makoto 2

  • Question 1 – “Where was Makoto born?” Answer: UG research facility
  • Question 2 – “Makoto’s DNA is based on…” Answer: Number One.

Spot Selection

  • Highlight the cut on Makoto’s arm.

Battle with Makoto 3

  • Question 1 – “How did Makoto enter the Mystery Labyrinth?” Answer: Coalescence.
  • Question 2 – “Who used Coalescence?” Answer: Makoto
  • Question 3 – “Yuma’s identity is…” Answer: Number One
  • Question 4 – “Who gave up their identity as Yuma Kokohead?” Answer: Ramen Stand Owner

Final Battle with Makoto

Oddly, this final showdown with Makoto largely casts aside logic in favor of quick-time button mashing.

  • Round 1 – A bunch of blue statements will be thrown at you. Just repel them all at Makoto. The actual content of them doesn’t seem to matter.
  • Round 2 – Press A to slash at the Makoto on the right without the glowing eyes.
  • Round 3 – Repel “These pitiful homunculi didn’t ask to be made and neither did I” (you’ll have to knock the statement back with two slashes).
  • Round 4 – Pummel Makoto with repelled statements again.
  • Round 5 – QTE time. Press left, then up, then X.
  • Round 6 – Repel “If I didn’t… who would?” (again, you’ll need two slashes to knock the statement back).
  • Round 7 – More pummeling Makoto with repelled statements.
  • Round 8 – QTE time again! Press A, Y, B, then X.
  • Round 9 – Repel “I’ve become someone else since I learned there were others like me…” (again, you’ll need two slashes to knock the statement back).
  • Round 10 – Pummel Makoto one last time.
  • Round 11 – QTE time. Press Y three times. Then mash Y, A, B, and A again. Finally, press X.

The game gives you one final choice to Destroy the Mystery Labyrinth or Stay in the Mystery Labyrinth, but it doesn’t really matter. There aren’t multiple endings to unlock or anything. You have officially finished the last Mystery Dungeon and wrapped up Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. Congrats!
