January’s Mary Jane & Black Cat: Beyond #1 sees Felicia Hardy kidnapped, with none other than Mary Jane Watson having to suit up to make the save.
This January, Mary Jane Watson will have to suit up and spring into action in order to save the life of one of her greatest rivals, Felicia Hardy/Black Cat.
As part of its January 2022 solicits, Marvel Comics has announced Mary Jane & Black Cat: Beyond #1, a new one-shot from the regular Black Cat creative team of writer Jed MacKay and artist C.F. Villa. “Black Cat has been kidnapped, and the only person who can save her is… Mary Jane Watson?!” the book’s official synopsis reads. “Mary Jane has never liked Felicia Hardy, and now she has to save her life?! But remember, this is the Black Cat we’re talking about. Things are never quite what they seem.”
While Marvel’s solicit does not explicitly refer to MJ as a superhero in this instance (though she has certainly been one in other continuities), the one-shot’s main cover, which comes from artist J. Scott Campbell, does see Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s one-time wife don a black catsuit, not unlike those worn by Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow or, of course, Black Cat herself.
In addition to Campbell’s main cover, Mary Jane & Black Cat: Beyond #1 features variant covers by the likes of Peach Momoko, Nabetse Zitro, Humberto Ramos, Adam Hughes, Phil Jimenez and the aforementioned C.F. Villa. In addition to Momoko, another one of Marvel’s Stormbreakers will provide a variant cover, though it remains to be seen exactly who. The comic itself is 48 pages long and carries a cover price of $4.99 USD.
