Hasbro pays tribute to Toy Biz with a new Captain America that recreates his first Marvel Legends figure for the line’s 20th Anniversary.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Marvel Legends line, Hasbro will be releasing a new Captain America figure that recreates his original release.
The figure comes with two heads (both masked and unmasked), Cap’s shield (which attaches to his back), alternate hands, an energy effect to wrap around the shield and a display stand, as well as a comic book. Retailing for $31.49, the figure is slated to arrive in spring 2022 and is fan-channel exclusive.

This isn’t the first time Hasbro has paid tribute to the former home of Marvel toys. Hasbro’s Retro line releases high-quality Marvel Legends on carding that recreates the ’90s Toy Biz releases. The upcoming Spider-Man wave also incorporates many classic cartoon characters, including Hobgoblin, Ben Reilly and even the Shocker.
In 2002, Toy Biz began the Marvel Legends line as a spinoff of its successful Spider-Man Classics series, but it quickly eclipsed that line in both scale and popularity. The first wave included four figures: Captain America, Toad, Hulk and Iron Man. In addition to the highly articulated toy itself, each release came with a display base and a comic book. Over time, the line also added in Build-a-Figure pieces to help introduce larger characters. While the original Sentinel isn’t as big as more recent releases, it was revolutionary for the time.
Hasbro recently announced its plans to create its biggest release ever with a crowd-funded Galactus figure. The campaign ended on Aug. 30 and successfully received over 30,000 backers, securing additional figures of Silver Surfer, Nova and Morg as bonuses. It will be released in fall 2022, though fans who missed out will likely have to pay steep secondary market fees if they missed the initial pre-order window.
Legends fans will have a lot to look forward to later this month when Hasbro hosts Hasbro Pulse Con 2021 on Oct. 22-23. The virtual event will be used to announce new products from Transformers, G.I. Joe, Power Rangers, Marvel and other key properties. As part of the event, a number of toys will be available to order for the first time, including a retro Marvel Legends Venom figure that replicates the stylized color scheme of the ’90s cartoon intro.
