Maruti Suzuki’s production drops by 1% in September

The overall number of units produced by Maruti Suzuki India in September decreased by 1 per cent to 1,74,978, the company said on Tuesday. In September 2022, the automaker had generated 1,77,468 units.

According to a regulatory filing by Maruti Suzuki, production of the entry-level Alto and S-Presso last month fell by 70% to 10,705 units from 35,887 units in the same period last year.

The same goes for the production of models including the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR, which fell to 90,849 units in September from 92,717 units in the same month last year.

Ciaz, a mid-sized vehicle, had a decrease in production last month, reaching 2,304 units compared to 2,654 units produced in September 2022.

In comparison to the same month a year ago, total passenger car manufacturing fell by 21 per cent to 1,03,858 units, a decrease from 1,31,258 units.

However, production of utility cars, such as the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, and Jimny, increased last month to 56,579 units from 29,811 units in year ago period.Over the previous month, the total number of passenger vehicles produced decreased slightly from September 2022’s 1,73,929 units to 1,73,451 units.Production of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle decreased from 3,539 units in September 2022 to 1,527 units in September 2023.
