No one was more excited than Mariah Carey to hear her song play in The Crown season 5.

In the first of the new episodes released of the Netflix drama, which all dropped on Wednesday November 9, Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and Prince Charles (Dominic West) head on what’s described as a ‘second honeymoon’.

They’re joined by their sons Prince Harry (Will Powell) and Prince William (Senan West), as well as several of Charles’ friends, much to Diana’s displeasure.

When Diana heads out to enjoy some water sports with her boys, with a less-than-enthused Charles remaining on the main boat, Mariah’s 1991 song Emotions can be heard playing loudly in the background.

The Queen of Christmas herself was ecstatic to be featured in the season premiere, sharing a picture of herself sipping a drink while lounging on the sofa with her dog to enjoy an early screening of the first episode.

‘THE CROWN ???? premiered last night and of course I had to have my own screening dahhlings! ☕️???? Bonus fact: my song Emotions is in the first episode! ahhhh!! ???? Thank you @netflix @thecrownnetflix!’ she tweeted.

In a video clip she shared on Twitter, the singer revealed she had the season five premiere playing on one screen… and a season one episode with Claire Foy as the late Queen Elizabeth II streaming on another.

Mariah was also, of course, dressed for the occasion, donning a tiara and sipping on a cup of tea, while her son Rocky lay sleeping on another sofa, completely uninterested by the show.

Fans of the All I Want For Christmas Is You chanteuse were ecstatic to hear her song play in The Crown, which spans from 1991 to 1997 in season five.

‘The Crown giving @MariahCarey’s Emotions a chance to shine? Deserved,’ one person tweeted.

‘Not Princess Di scooting off on a boat with Mariah Carey blaring. Obfriiiiiiiiickinsessed. Excellent piece of fine art. I might start paying for my own Netflix,’ another wrote.

Someone else pointed out how big a fan Mariah is of The Crown, writing: ‘Mariah Carey playing on the first episode of season 5 of The Crown I just know she wanted to be in this show in some way.’

One person praised ‘Diana’s taste’ with the track playing while Elizabeth’s portrayal of the character is enjoying her holiday with her sons, while another said: ‘Never related to Diana until I saw her blasting Mariah Carey’s Emotions. Go girl.’

‘Princess Diana blasting @MariahCarey’s “EMOTIONS” in the first episode of “THE CROWN” season five has me LIVING!!! Get your royalties Mimi!!!’ a fan wrote excitedly, as another added: ‘Princess Diana bopping Mariah Carey’s Emotions in a speedboat in Italy is SUCH a mood.’

Other actors who’ve joined the cast of The Crown in season five after the latest time jump include Imelda Staunton as the Queen, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Prince Charles actor Dominic admitted that he found it ‘emotional’ acting opposite his real-life son Senan, who stars as the young Prince William in the drama.

The Crown seasons one to five are available to stream on Netflix.
