Margot Robbie despairs at Ryan Gosling’s eerie real-life Ken moment
The 33-year-old Australian actress has been seen wearing nothing but pink of late.
A fine colour indeed, but we hope there isn’t some sinister method acting going on which will turn the star plastic, or, something.
But we’re not really worried about Margot, in all honesty, when compared to the 42-year-old Drive actor’s dedication to his part.
First, Ryan coined the word ‘kenergy’, which got everyone talking about Barbie’s sidekick Ken, who is – let’s face it – a bit of klutz.
He even got pretty defensive about his beloved character when people called him out as being too old for the part (how dare they!).
In a cover interview with GQ, he said: ‘If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told.’
And more recently, Ryan joked about kenergy being a mysterious force – like WiFi – which could be affecting the bees. Err, okay.
But now, things are getting weirder, as it appears Ryan – known for his sleek portrayals in films such as The Notebook, A Place Beyond The Pines, and La La Land (the list goes on) – is now being infected by kenergy in real life.
That’s right, in a recent promotional video on Instagram, in which Margot and Ryan appear side-by-side, Ken seems to possess the actor for a moment or two.
‘Don’t make me look bad in front of the Americans,’ the Canadian actor said, pointing to Margot, who is – er – Australian.
‘I’m not American!’ replied Margot, and the pair crumbled into fits of laughter.
One twitter user shared the video, and commented: ‘he’s so ken it goes beyond method acting it’s just a role he was born to play.’ [sic]
Meanwhile, another Ryan fan wrote: ‘And you people had the AUDACITY to say he wasn’t right for Ken.’
In strong agreement, someone else pointed out: ‘This is beyond method acting. Ryan Gosling is straight up Ken.’
Other famous faces set to be included in the film are Will Ferrell, Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera, SNL’s Kate McKinnon, Marvel’s Simu Liu, Insecure’s Issa Rae, new Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa, and Emma Mackey.
The soundtrack is also set to be epic, as Ryan himself will be singing some tunes (yes, exciting) alongside Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo (!), Nicki Minaj, Pink Pantheress, Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi.
Barbie will be in UK cinemas on July 21.
