Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi pitches for cashless transactions, urges people to go for ‘cashless day out’ experiment

In a bid to promote digital payment across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to go for a ‘cashless day out’ experiment to highlight the merits of digital payment methods. He asserted that UPI’s usage is not limited to metros of big cities these days, but people in small villages and towns have also adopted these digital payment methods, which are benefitting both shopkeepers and customers

The Prime Minister urged people to switch over to online payments and added that digital transactions worth Rs 20,000 crore are now taking place daily in the country and that this is not only increasing facilities but also encouraging an environment of honesty.

“Anandita Tripathi wrote to me about her visit to the North East. From Assam to Meghalaya, she was able to complete her trip without taking out cash from any ATM. She was able to complete her trip with cashless payments with UPI,” he said.

“Two daughters of Delhi, Sagarika and Preksha found no reason to carry cash anymore. According to them every transaction can be done digitally on UPI,” he added.

PM also talked about that the recently-inaugurated Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya (prime minister’s museum) and highlighted that it is becoming the center of attraction for the youth, which is “connecting them with the precious heritage of the country”.

The museum was inaugurated on April 14, the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.

“Sarthak ji wrote to me about his visit to the museum. He shared how he has always been good in history but many of the facts he got to know with his visit to the museum were amazing,” he said.

“What would be a better time to remember those who contributed to nation building than the time when the nation is celebrating Amrit Mahotsav?” he added.

The Prime Minister also urged the youth to visit a local museum during holidays and share their experiences using #MuseumMemories.

“On 18 May we will celebrate International Museum Day. Let’s celebrate this day by visiting our local museums and sharing our experiences with #MuseumMemories,” he said.
