MANGALURU: As many as 27,363 (82.72%) candidates out of a total of 33,055 who appeared from Mangalore University are eligible to receive their degrees at the 41st convocation to be held on March 15.
Registrar Evaluation Dr Raju Krishna Chalannavar told reporters on Monday that of the total eligible candidates, 64.88 % (17,755) are girls and 35.11 % (9608) boys passed the exam.
During the convocation, Mangalore university will award Doctor of Science degree (Zoology) to Dr Ramakrishna, in addition to 115 PhD degrees (Arts- 29, Science-61, commerce- 22 and education- 3). Out of 115 PhD candidates, 55 (48%) are women candidates and 60 (52 % ) are men candidates. Among the PhD candidates, seven men are foreign nationals from Afghanistan, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Fiji island and Oman. A total of 55 gold medals and 57 cash prizes will be awarded. There are 199 ranks, of which 71 students are first rank holders (PG- 53 and UG – 18; Arts- 17, Science and Technology- 41, Commerce -9 and Education -4).
A total of 28,520 candidates appeared for University examinations during 2021-22 examinations and 23,020 (80.72%) passed. In the PG programme out of 5069 candidates who appeared, 4526 (89.29%) have passed and out of 23,336 UG students who appeared, 18,379 (78.76%) have passed. Out of 4526 PG students who passed, boys account for 1186 (20.20%) and women represent 3340 (73.80%). In the UG, out of 18,379 students who passed, 6911 (37.60%) are boys and the remaining 11,468 (62.40% ) are girls.
As far as total performance in University examinations is concerned, out of 22,905 (except PhD) candidates who passed, 9043 (39.48 %) account for distinction, 10,512 (45.90%) are first class and 2,440 (10.65%) are second class and the remaining 910 (3.97%) belong to pass class. A total of 4535 candidates appeared for autonomous institution examinations and 4343 (95.77%) have passed.
Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof P S Yadapadithaya said that National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) director Prof S C Sharma will deliver the convocation address and Governor and Chancellor of University Thawar Chand Gehlot will preside and confer degrees at the event to be held at Mangala Auditorium, Mangalore University campus. Higher Education Minister Dr Ashwath Narayana CN will be present. About 23 students will be awarded their degrees/ prizes on stage by the governor. A few more will be given their certificates at a programme held in the presence of the VC and registrars between 3 pm and 5 pm. The degree certificates of all eligible students who have paid the fee will be sent to the concerned departments/ colleges by the second week of April.
