Manchester United set conditions for Ruben Neves transfer deal as August 31 deadline nears

Manchester United would prefer to sign Ruben Neves for a discounted fee rather than the full £40million that’s been quoted, reports say. The Portugal international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford ahead of the close of the transfer window on August 31. But whether the Red Devils are able to snap him up remains to be seen.

United have signed Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane so far this summer.

And Neves could be the next player to arrive, with the Wolves star currently under consideration.

He’s been a consistent performer at Molineux over the last few years, helping Bruno Lage’s side establish themselves in the Premier League.

And with Wolves looking to balance the books in the wake of the coronavirus crisis, they’re willing to cash in for a fee around £40m.

However, the Manchester Evening News say United are only likely to sign Neves if they’re offered the 24-year-old for a knockdown price.

But Ronaldo blitzed the Premier League, propelling the Red Devils to three straight titles on the spin under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He was eventually sold to Real Madrid for £80m in 2009, a fee that made him the world’s most-expensive player at the time.

And United have long dreamed of having Ronaldo back, although the chances of that happening as he enters the twilight years of his career appear to be remote.

United saw Nani shine during his time at the Theatre of Dreams, too.

The current Orlando City star moved from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, following the same path as Ronaldo.

And Nani dazzled at times while performing under Ferguson, winning four league titles before being sold by Louis van Gaal.

Then there’s Bruno Fernandes, too.

The midfielder has been consistent ever since moving in January 2020, easily establishing himself as a talisman for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And Fernandes is hoping the Red Devils can win the Premier League title this year, having inspired their 5-1 hammering of Leeds last weekend.

Meanwhile, regarding Neves, Lage insisted Wolves wanted to keep the 24-year-old – though did admit every player had a price.

“All the top players we have are linked with all the clubs in the world,” he said.

“If you go to Portugal, the top players at Benfica are all linked with moves to Wolves.

“Ruben is happy here and we are happy with him. We are not thinking to let anyone leave, but every player has a price.

“You never know, if Messi changes to PSG then anyone can go.”

United and Wolves are both in action on Sunday, facing Southampton and Tottenham respectively.
