Manchester United manager odds change after Mauricio Pochettino development
Mauricio Pochettino is the bookmaker’s favourite to take over as next permanent manager at Manchester United.
The Manchester Evening News understands that United are confident of hiring Pochettino as their next permanent manager.
Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be demanding £10million in compensation for the head coach, who could make a return to English football before his contract in the French capital expires in 2023.
The 49-year-old guided Tottenham to an impressive Champions League run that ended in the final at the hands of Liverpool. He was then dismissed following a down-turn in league form and then made the switch to Paris, winning the Coupe de France in his first season.
The second favourite is Michael Carrick, who has taken over as caretaker manager from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his dismissal.
The Norwegian coach guided United to a Europa League final and a second-placed finish in the Premier League, but a run of one win in seven games saw him lose his post at Old Trafford.
Former midfielder Carrick takes the job whilst the board conducts a search for a new manager on either a permanent or interim basis.
Much like his old number one, Carrick now has the chance to impress with his ability from the sidelines, with a Champions League crunch match against Villarreal on Tuesday being his first test.
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is joint-second favourite with Carrick for the position. Rodgers, 48, has been linked with a switch to the Red Devils giving his track record in improving teams.
Though recent form with the Foxes has dipped, an FA Cup triumph last season lives long in the memory of the fans.
Zinedine Zidane is the fourth favourite on the list, with the coach currently out of a job after leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season.
He guided Los Blancos to three Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups over two spells in charge at the Bernabeu.
Rounding out the top five of the bookmaker’s favourites is Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag. The 51-year-old has spent over four-years at the Dutch club, impressing many with his attractive style of football during his tenure.
