Man wins lotto for the fourth time
An American man has been left stunned after winning the lottery for the fourth time in 23 years, taking his total winnings to almost $5 million.
In a remarkable chance of fate, an American man has won the lottery for the fourth time in 23 years.
Pennsylvania man Mike Luciano, 55, has now won a combined total of $US4.6 million from the games.
The Centre Daily Times reported he won the $US1 million ($A1.38) prize on January 6 after purchasing a $US20 ticket.
In January 2021, Mr Luciano won $US500,000. He also won $US3 million in 2016 and $US100,000 in 1999, meaning he has won a whopping $A6.382 million in total.
“I just want to thank everybody for their texts and nice messages,” Mr Luciano told the Centre Daily Times.
He bought the latest winning ticket at Rutter’s, a convenience store along Pennsylvania Route 764.
Despite winning the lottery in 2021, Mr Luciano warned others about the games.
“I‘m convinced no one wins this many times without playing more than they should,” he told the Altoona Mirror in 2021.
“I’m addicted to it. People shouldn’t do what I do,” he added.
“I don’t want them to think — I mean, I’m not ungrateful, this is unbelievable and I couldn’t be more thankful it’s happening to me — but I don’t want people to think it will happen to them.”
It comes almost a month after Australians were told they could enter some of the American Lottery competitions.
In December, Australians could enter a game where the prize money was in excess of half a billion dollars.
At the time, The Lottery office CEO Jaclyn Wood said the high stakes competition could provide life-changing amounts of money to multiple people.
“Ending 2021 with a $600+ million lottery win would make achieving almost any New Year’s Resolution a reality,” Ms Wood said.
“Players don’t need to be a division one winner in order to gain a life-changing windfall, with the division 2 prize set to exceed $1.4 million.”
The Lottery Office is an Australian-owned provider and holds the appropriate license to offer Aussies the chance to win from international draws and donates a percentage of the cost of every ticket sold to charities across the country, allowing the organisation to help the lives of everyday Australians.
“We’re Australia’s ticket to the world’s largest official lotteries. When Australians purchase tickets in our lotteries, we purchase a matching ticket in the overseas draw and when one of our customers win, we pay them the exact amount of the winnings we collect from the overseas lottery ticket,” Ms Wood said.
