Man Utd’s Sevilla loss may be a good thing after reaching FA Cup final

Brighton edged the overall play on the day but United showed fight to bounce back from last week’s disappointment in Spain. They now face the daunting task of playing Manchester City for the first time ever in an FA Cup final.

By the time of the game in the early evening of June 3, City could have already won one trophy on their way to completing a treble as well as booking themselves in another final. Only United have won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble and will be desperate to stop City from replicating their success.

The defeat to Sevilla, as disappointing and concerning as it was, will end up boosting United’s chances of lifting their 13th FA Cup. The final Premier League game of the season is on May 28, so both teams will now have the same amount of time to prepare for the subsequent final.

City are a juggernaut and the last thing teams need is an energy-sapping night less than three days before playing them. Of course, three trophies are better than one.

But tough tests were still ahead in the Europa League, including Juventus in the semi-finals. United have now inadvertently given themselves the best chance of winning the FA Cup and also stopping City in their tracks as they look to match their rivals’ historic 1999 success.
