Man Utd’s scary XI after transfer window closes if they sign Antony and three more players
Manchester United are still chasing more signings before the transfer window slams shut next week, with manager Erik ten Hag tipped to bring in Antony from his former club Ajax. And Express Sport takes a look at the intimidating XI the Red Devils can line up with if they can secure the signature of the Brazil international and three other players.
Goalkeeper – De Gea
United are said to be keen to sign Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and have reportedly offered to double his wages and hand him a four-year contract at Old Trafford. But the 32-year-old Germany international would begin his United career as David de Gea’s understudy.
That’s following the departure of Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan. De Gea would therefore keep his place between the posts but would need to cut out the mistakes to keep Trapp out of the team.
Defence – Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia
Ten Hag has already switched up his defence this season after signing Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. Martinez has started all three of his side’s matches this term and could continue to partner Raphael Varane at the heart of defence after Harry Maguire was dropped for the Red Devils’ victory over Liverpool on Monday night.
Malacia was handed his first start in United colours against Jurgen Klopp’s side after Luke Shaw was dropped in the wake of his side’s thrashing at the hands of Brentford. And Malacia will be confident of keeping his place after a decent performance against the Merseyside club.
A midfield of Casemiro and De Jong, with Bruno Fernandes providing the ammunition in behind the front three could completely revolutionise Ten Hag’s side as they look to secure a place in the Premier League’s top-four.
Forwards – Antony, Rashford, Sancho
Antony’s arrival at Old Trafford would almost certainly pave the way for Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club. And the exciting winger would be an instant name on the team sheet, with his cutting edge in front of goal desperately needed in the north west.
The 22-year-old could join Jadon Sancho in the United attack, with Marcus Rashford leading the line as he looks to get back to his best. Anthony Martial would then be among the main options off the bench.
