Man Utd updates on Bruno Fernandes, Harry Kane and the Glazers

Manchester United are due to lock horns with Tottenham on Thursday night. And Bruno Fernandes, Harry Kane and the Glazers are all in the spotlight ahead of the showdown in north London. Express Sport now takes a look at all the latest Red Devils news as that contest approaches.

Fernandes injury update

Speaking after United beat Brighton in the FA Cup, MUTV pundit Danny Webber claimed Fernandes had ‘heavy strapping’ after being withdrawn for Marcel Sabitzer.

“There is definitely something there,” he said. “He rolled his ankle it swells and can become really painful.

“You can take painkillers or anti-inflams and get through, he did really well to be fair.

“I thought he might not come out in the second half he lasted a lot longer.

“He was heavily strapped and its a case now of icing it, resting it. You can recover quite quickly providing the actual injury isn’t too bad.”

Glazers ‘have no pride’

There have been suggestions the Glazers could stay at United, despite the Americans being open to a takeover.

And former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie, speaking to Football Insider, has criticised the family for their handling of the process.

“I think that the Glazers do not have any pride, I do not think they care about the fans,” he told Football Insider.

“I think Man United is a commodity to them, I think it is a business. Football is not like any other business, it is the only job in the world that they pay you for failure. But if you run it like a normal business you will not get anywhere.

“Man United is an institution, I would just like to see somebody come in and treat it like that.

“They are a huge, worldwide club and they do not deserve to be lagging.“

Shaw confident of strong finish

United were dumped out of the Europa League by Sevilla before beating Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday.

And Luke Shaw has claimed he’s confident the Red Devils will finish the season on a high.

“Today I think it doesn’t put things right but it puts us in a good place to finish the season well because Champions League is a must for us and a Manchester derby now in the FA Cup final is an amazing game to be involved in,” he said.

“I’m really happy. For me, personally, I’ve been involved in two penalty shoot-outs and I’ve been on the losing side both times so to win one today was a big relief for me.

“We don’t want to be known as the team that comes back after a poor result but I think we showed character today. I think a lot of people thought that maybe today we would lose.

“But inside the dressing room we had the confidence against a very good side, they’re an amazing team. Let’s not get that wrong. And so, it was a tough game. But we stuck until the end and got that bit of luck in the shoot-out that you need.”

Nani reveals Ferguson soft side

Speaking to Tribuna Expresso, Nani opened up on Sir Alex Ferguson’s softer side while at United.

“If I had the next day off, for example, then I could have some fun…on special days like Christmas or New Year – no one in England cares about that,” he said.

“On New Year, we could even go to training drunk and the coach didn’t care about it.

“That’s the side of [Sir Alex] that knew how to deal with the players and had the perception to say: this day is special, I can’t make demands.”

“We had been playing non-stop all year long. It was a joy, a moment of relaxation, a different kind of training – clowning around. I won’t lie, I liked nights out.”

The Portuguese added, “It was amazing. He knows how to deal with the player, whether they are older or younger. He knows how to manage their professional career and the human being.”
