Man Utd ‘trying to be CHEEKY’ with £55m Mount bid as Chelsea hold out for more

MANCHESTER UNITED are being “cheeky” with their bids for Mason Mount, according to Jermaine Pennant.

The Red Devils are yet to agree a deal with Chelsea and have seen three offers turned down.

The Blues are holding out for their £70million asking price.

United’s last bid was worth £55m after seeing a £45m plus £5m in add-ons proposal also rejected.

Mount has just a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and has shown no signs of penning an extension after agreeing personal terms with United.

However, it has not forced Chelsea into giving the 24-year-old up for any less than their demands.

Pennant, formally for Liverpool, told talkSPORT: “If we’re talking about the figures that have been thrown about, £120m for Jude Bellingham, £100m for Declan Rice, I think Chelsea are right to hold out for more, for his value.

“I like to put things in perspective, if you’re looking at £50m for James Ward-Prowse, who is getting valued at that in the Championship at Southampton, £55m for Mount would be a steal, a bargain in my eyes.

“Attacking minded players are always valued that little bit higher as well, so Chelsea are holding out for the right value.

“I think that Manchester United are just trying to be a little bit cheeky to get him as cheap as chips.”

But rumours suggest that their £55m offer was their last one and they could move to other targets.

Utrecht midfielder Taylor Booth and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo have been eyed as alternatives.

As for Mount, Bayern Munich could swoop in for him.
