Manchester United will turn their attention to Lisandro Martinez once they have wrapped up the signing of Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia.

Erik ten Hag is close to making his first signing as United boss after the club swooped in with an offer of £13million plus £1.7m in add-ons for Malacia on Monday night.

‘The agreement is there [with United],’ Feyenoord sporting director Frank Arnesen said.

‘We are now waiting for Tyrell. If he says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent.’

While the left-back also has an offer from Lyon, L’Equipe report that Malacia has informed the Ligue 1 side he will sign for United.

Once that deal is concluded, United will step up their interest in Ajax defender Martinez, according to The Times.

Arsenal have already made a bid of £34m for the Argentina international with the Dutch giants demanding a fee closer to £45m.

United have asked Ajax to keep them updated on the situation with ten Hag eager to sign his former player.

Martinez’s defensive partner Jurrien Timber is also on United’s radar but the 21-year-old appears committed to playing for Ajax for at least one more year in order to boost his chances of featuring for Netherlands in the World Cup this winter.

United remain in talks with Barcelona over a move for Frenkie de Jong having made serious progress on that front this week.

The Premier League side are thought to be close to agreeing a fee of £55m plus several performances-related add-ons that could take the deal up to £74m.
