Man Utd submit opening bid to Fenerbahce as Ten Hag’s transfer plans take twist

Reports in Turkey suggest Manchester United have made an offer worth £2.5million for Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. The development serves as yet another twist at Old Trafford where Erik ten Hag’s summer transfer plans are seemingly changing on a day-to-day basis, particularly when a goalkeeper is concerned.

It’s no secret that United are looking to sign at least one new goalkeeper before the 2023/24 campaign as they target a long-term replacement for David de Gea.

Andre Onana remains top of the bill but as Inter Milan continue to dig their heels into the ground, it appears United are ready to explore alternative options.

Sports Digitale reporter Murat Zorlu suggests that United have launched a shock swoop for the 25-year-old shot-stopper Bayindir, who played 26 times in the Turkish Super Lig last term.

Bayindir has played well over 100 times for Fenerbahce since joining the club from Ankaragucu.

Unfortunately, his campaign was cut short this season as he was forced to undergo surgery on a hernia.

The Turk is widely recognised as one of the best goalkeepers in the Super Lig and he could yet reach new heights if he was to seal a move to Old Trafford, although it’s highly unlikely he would be coming in as the No.1.

In March, Bayindir penned a new long-term contract in Istanbul meaning United could have difficulty trying to land him this summer.

Ten Hag is still waiting to resolve the future of De Gea, who is now formally a free agent following the expiry of his contract.

Talks are continuing with Inter over the signing of Onana but the Champions League finalists want upwards of £50m to consider a sale.

United are only currently willing to offer around £35m plus add-ons which falls considerably short of Inter’s asking price.

That’s why the Red Devils have also sounded out cheaper alternatives including Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow.

Contact has already been made with the Dutch champions but Onana is still understood to be United’s priority.

That said, it’s not out of the equation that United sign two goalkeepers this summer, especially if Dean Henderson joins Nottingham Forest as expected.

Henderson’s time at Old Trafford looked all but over last summer when he slammed the club for the way they had handled his future.

But now he’s back training with his team-mates at Carrington as Forest patiently await clarity on his future from United officials.

United confirmed their first summer signing on Tuesday as Mason Mount joined the club from Chelsea in a £60m deal.
